Local Celebrity Backs Make Your Mark Campaign!

MIDDLESBROUGH television star Kirsten O’Brien has shown her support of Tside’s Make Your Mark campaign.

The Ex CBBC presenter was back in the North East last night to present an award at the Royal Television Awards after recently finishing filming ‘Eastenders: The Aftermath’ with co-presenter George Lamb.

Kirsten, who celebrated her 38th birthday on Tuesday, is a keen Boro fan but that is not the only thing she feels “passionately” about.

Smoking can cause numerous illnesses to our bodies, reduce our fitness and take at least ten years off our lives but that is not enough for people to stop smoking. At least 106,000 people die in Britain from smoking which works out as 2%.

According to an article from the Occupational Health Magazine, the NHS spends £5bn, 5.5% of their budget to support smokers and to treat illnesses related to smoking. Is smoking worth this much money? Money that could be useful towards other medical research and to cure illnesses that are not self-inflicted.
