
The accident scene on Linthorpe Road
A man in his late 50’s has been taken to hospital after crashing into the bus stop outside Heron Foods on Linthorpe Road.
The crash happened between 1:00pm and 1:15pm which caused roads to be closed off due to all emergency services called to the scene.
Sue Cotterill, a worker at Honeyman’s fruit and vegetable shop witnessed the accident she said:
“I saw the man driving and thought he wasn’t going to stop all of a sudden he crashed into the bus stop and it bounced. There was an old lady sat at the bus stop who was thrown from her seat. The glass fell out of the bus stop over her and three other people.”
Previous to the accident the gentleman had been in the Cleveland pub. The gentleman had been overheard saying that he did not feel well and was going to go home. Shortly after that the accident occurred.
Police have confirmed that the gentleman had had a heart attack at the wheel and had been taken to hospital.
