My quest is to find the North-East’s best charity shops, and transform myself into a totally unique fashionista in the process.
I’d had a tip-off that I should check out Darlington ’s charity shops, so, with three like-minded friends in tow I did just that.
Luckily for me, one of those friends is actually from Darlington and proved to be a handy tour guide.
We loved what we found there! Darlington turned out to be a complete gold mine when it comes to charity shopping, there’s practically one on every corner.
I set myself a budget again, £20 this time, and although I didn’t overspend it I really wanted to. We stumbled across a St. Teresa’s Hospice shop, where they had some amazing jewellery that had been donated from a shop which had just closed down.
I really really wanted a pair of gold earrings which had been sold for £14 in the shop they were originally from but were just £3 in the charity shop. Unfortunately there was also too many other things I wanted as well. I decided against buying anything though, I do already have some earrings that were pretty similar to those and all the lovely people in my life wouldn’t have been getting any christmas presents if I had spent any more money. I’m pretty poor at the moment. I will most definitely be returning though!

Some of my charity shop finds.
St Teresa’s Hospice are going to be opening a second-hand homewares store soon, the shop front is already set up and looks very tempting. This blog is supposed to be about unique fashion, but I’m sure I could make an exception for what looks like an amazing shop in the making.
Anyway I’m sure you’re wondering what I actually bought. Well I’ll tell you. In the very first shop we went into I found a pair of Nelly’s finest Apple Bottom jeans. In my size! And they were only £4.99! They are a bit too long for my short and stumpy legs, but that can be fixed. And they’re pretty unique, you hardly ever see anyone wearing them.
What else? I bought three bags, to add to my ever-growing collection. Two of them are leather, and the most expensive one was only £5. I think I’m going to need to have a serious clear out of my wardrobe, it’s full to bursting point. The bag section alone is spilling out all over my bedroom floor.
Darlington’s Oxfam is the best charity shop I’ve ever seen, It’s huge and really well organised, everything is split into sections and then into size order and there’s loads to choose from. One of my friends found a faux fur coat and a big cosy winter jumper in there!
One thing that has suprised me about shopping in charity shops is the level of business. Most of them seem to be pretty popular, I thought they’d be quite empty but I was really wr0ng in thinking this.
Anyway, I loved Darlington, the town centre has cobbled streets and loads of cute little boutique style shops. It’s perfect for finding completely unique clothes on a budget. I will definitely be shopping there again.
