
E-fit of the attacker
Police are appealing for help after a female Teesside University student was punched in the face, stabbed four times and robbed of her handbag near Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough.
The incident occured on Sunday 3rd January at around 6.55pm, as the 23 year old victim walked along The Cresent and crossed over the junction at Cornfield Road. A young male who was cycling in the same direction attempted to steal her handbag as he passed her.
She struggled with him before he attacked her and made off with the bag. She gave chase for a short distance but had to stop due to her injuries, for which she later received surgery.
Police have issued an e-fit of the suspect, who is a white male of 17-18 years of age, about 5ft 8 and of slim build. He is described as having fair hair, faint eyebrows and a small nose. He was wearing a blue hooded jumper and dark tracksuit bottoms, and was riding a silver bike.
A Cleveland Police Spokeswoman said: “Incidents such as these are very rare and we would appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have further information to come forward. We would urge students to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us.”
The stolen items include a black Blackberry Bold mobile phone and Rimmel hair straighteners, amongst other belongings, which were contained inside a black leather Gladstone handbag.
