FOR fifteen years homeless people across the UK have been selling The Big Issue on our streets. Reporter SERENA HOLLAND spent a day with a Big Issue vendor to see what his life is really like.

Paul Harris, 38, lives in Middlesbrough and has sold The Big Issue for around four years.

He arrives at his spot on Linthorpe Road every morning at 9am and spends the day trying to shift as many magazines as possible.

But selling magazines to the public does not always go well. Yesterday, within the first hour he had not sold anything at all, and for Paul – who lives hand to mouth – meant he had no money for his essentials.

A YOUNG woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 23 has spoken to Tside about how she is battling to overcome the killer disease.

Kristen Hallenga found a lump in her breast last year, and after tests doctors discovered a 6cm by 9cm tumor and a tumour on her spine.

Now the brave 24-year-old has set up a charity and is touring the country to raise awareness about breast cancer in young people.

Dying to be skinny?

Looking through the cupboards and finding nothing but a tin of beans and a pile of dust may not be a very suprising image to witness as a student.

All eating habits go out the window just as soon as the Student Loan enters the bank account. Take aways and microwave meals become a regular part of students diets. But what about those who become so stressed about completing assignments and preparing for exams that they just overlook the need to eat.

The shocking truth is that more than 1.1 million people suffer from an eating disorder in the UK with 10% dying. Paulina Hobson reports.
