Twittering on and on.

THE rise of Social networking site Twitter has continued and was recently described as “this year’s facebook” in an article by The Guardian. It is the new craze in the dizzy world of social media and it’s mowing down its rivals one by one it seems.

In short Twitter is a site were you ‘tweet’ up to 140 characters on anything you want. Think of it as a mini Facebook or Myspace without all the bells and whistles of a profile page not to mention endless photographs girls take of themselves on a night out.

Many people have heard of it and many people have also signed up to twitter and thought “what do I do now?”

Twitter is designed for people on the move who own one of the new generation of smart phones. In the last week alone I have tweeted while stood in a queue at the Bank to doing so while drinking Champagne at my Birthday dinner.

The idea and use of the site and its many mobile formats is so simple it almost seems complex. A person could be excused for thinking “is this it” and giving up before they have even begun.

The main weapon in Twitters armoury is its many celebrity users. The President of the United States and prank phone callers extraordinaire Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross to name but three. There are endless streams of famous names from both sides of the Atlantic tweeting and up until last week’s revelations of some celebs having a ‘ghost tweeter’ it seemed most were authentic.

So far I have tried without success to get a personal reply from some of the celebrities I follow, but I have noticed some take time to respond to questions which is something of a nice touch.

Finally be warned, Tweeting is very addictive just ask anyone of the many hundreds of thousands who follow Stephen Fry and they will confirm this. I even have a person whom I follow who updates on which song she is listening to at that very moment!

Anyway must dash off and update twitter…..follow me on there I’m @Benjaminglass. 070410-twitter
