COMMUNITY: the LGBT play coming to Middlesbrough, April 2016.

A PLAY which is being crowd funded by the people of Middlesbrough to highlight LGBT issues hits the stage in April.

The name of the project is Community and is hoping to achieve a sense of solidarity once again in the LGBT community that the writer feels has been lost.

Now Boro born writer, producer and director Scott Davies, 21, from Saltburn, is asking for your help in raising the full amount needed for it to hit the stage.

He said: “I knew that I had to put on this play, so I looked at crowd-funding.”

“I had already considered crowd-funding but wanted to see if I could get the funding from elsewhere before turning to the public.”

After failing to secure arts funding for the project, Scott decided to take matters in to his own hands and look at crowd-funding.

Looking to raise £5,300 in total, he has succeeded in so far raising over £2,000 but is desperately hoping to achieve his full goal.

Scott’s inspiration for his play was found by speaking to young people with similar thoughts and feelings as his own.

He describes his play as highlighting ‘the fight and struggle every single person has with coming to terms with who they are’ and is something very close to his heart.

He has organised a fundraising event at the end of January in Saltburn.

Already confirmed for the event are several live bands, food and drinks and a raffle to which over 20 prizes have been donated by Saltburn and Middlesbrough based businesses.

Attendees will also have the chance to meet the cast and crew and find out first hand why this play is so important to them.

The fundraiser is being hosted at the Earthbeat Centre in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, on January 31st between 6pm and 10:30pm.

The play will be shown at The House of Blah Blah on April 21st/22nd.

You can buy your ticket for the show here.

Alternatively, you can pledge your donation through their crowd-funding page here.
